Oil giants Shell and Eni paid the Nigerian Government $1.1bn for one of West Africa’s biggest oil blocks. But the money ended up going to a company controlled by the former Nigerian oil minister, Dan Etete. Etete awarded his company the block whilst in office.
The money was lost to the Nigerian state – it could have made a massive difference, as this infographic shows.
